Ethics approach and challenges of technologized bodily experience (opens in new window)

This deliverable will outline an embedded ethics approach to new technology innovation. It is presented in the form of a state-of-the-art review, case studies of ethical evaluation of new technologies within the TOUCHLESS project, and recommendations. It will be suitable for publication as an article in a technology ethics journal.

Comprehensive sensory assessment and sensory taxonomy of sensations enabled by non-contact haptic technologies, based on state-of-the-art psychophysical techniques and neurophysiology of skin receptors (opens in new window)

This deliverable will contain psychophysical datasets describing the sensory capacity of Touchless technologies studied in healthy human volunteer participants The datasets will be prepared for publication in the scientific peerreviewed literature

Preliminary data and AI-driven style touch library (opens in new window)

This deliverable will describe the first iteration of the touchstyle library and data on using it to create haptic feedback influence human affect and modulate higherlevel experiences It will be suitable for publication at conferences on haptics and humancomputer interaction

RRI training by all consortium (opens in new window)

This deliverable will summarise the training material and capture the learning from a fullconsortium RRI training event to be organised by UCL in early 2021

Report on application of AI methods to psychophysical (low-level) and psychometric/experiential (high-level) neurocognitive model data (opens in new window)

This deliverable will outline how the AI perception detection platform and the AI modulation engine can be applied to create an experiential model that integrate across scales. This is a preliminary exploration of what could be achieved with our platform and it would include both low-level psychophysical (emerging from D2.1) as well as some high-level experiential data (emerging through D4.1).

A document containing a Schematics of how the participants will stand or sit in relation to the experimental apparatus b Descriptive procedures for temperature and humidity control as well as the sequence of events for a general user study c The placement and regulation for the various biosensors that will capture data for the AI engine both contact eg galvanic skin response oxygen concentration electroencephalography and contactless heart rate body and hand posture temperature change

The Haptics Helix will be a virtual cluster that will gather relevant stakeholders interested in the project It will be a networking platform as well as a tool to boost communication and dissemination activities

First demonstration and outreach activities (opens in new window)

This report will summarize the first demonstrators and evaluations thereof these will be in the form of paper drafts The outreach activities will be summarized in another part of the report as will the insights gathered from them

A demonstrator of the AI sensing layer, perception and haptic modulation platforms with the feed forward modulation and affective feedback loop (opens in new window)

This demonstrator will the combination of hardware and software to show forward modulation of higher-level experiences as well as feedback loops. Descriptions of the demonstrator will be suitable submissions for HCI and haptics conferences.

A touch library to modulate social experiences demonstrated in an interactive application (opens in new window)

This demonstrator will show how a variety of social experiences may be modulated interactively. The description of the demonstrator as well as evaluations of it will be submitted to top-tier journals.

Demo of touchless haptics combining electrostatic and ultrasound (opens in new window)

A system to create piloerection at target positions with patterns that vary over time Premade patterns can be generated directly with the demonstrator whereas userdefined patterns require the use of an external computer The system can be coupled with an ultrasonic stimulator to create multimodal experiences The setup will be reported in article format for peer review publication containing operational and setup knowledge

Demo of touchless haptics using ultrasound on both glabrous and non-glabrous skin (opens in new window)

A standalone demonstrator in which the user can put the arm and feel ultrasonic haptic feedback both on the hand and the forearm For the forearm the stimulation targets the hairs so different parameters can be adjusted to match the type of hair An internal document that may be published on a demo track of a conference will describe the parameters to operate this setup

Demo of touchless haptics combining infrared and ultrasound (opens in new window)

A setup capable of generating tactile sensations using controlled infrared radiation. The setup produces dynamic patterns with various degrees of spatial complexity. This setup can be complemented with ultrasonic tactile stimulation; and with virtual reality or projection mapping for adding accompanying visual feedback. The setup will be reported in article format, possibly for peer review publication, containing operational and setup knowledge.
